Dropping the Puck on Cancer
Sigma Chi and Beta Theta Pi fraternities teamed up to crosscheck brain cancer. More than 10 members of each chapter worked tirelessly to make the 2013 event a success. Sorority representatives are also members of the organization, acting as liaisons between Dropping the Puck on Cancer and their respective sororities. Dropping the Puck on Cancer's mission is to raise money and awareness to fight brain cancer through fraternal collaboration. They will host various fundraising events throughout the year, culminating in The Winter Classic hockey game and are committed to expanding Dropping the Puck on Cancer in any and all appropriate means to support brain cancer research. Dropping the Puck on Cancer wants to incorporate other organizations from around the Indiana University Bloomington campus in making Dropping the Puck on Cancer a success. Moreover, they want to expand the philanthropy to other universities beyond IU. Proceeds benefit the American Brain Tumor Association.
Indiana University Dance Marathon (IUDM)
IU Dance Marathon was created over 20 years ago with the goal of providing hope for children of Riley Hospital by generating funds for the Ryan White Infectious Disease Center. IUDM donates money to support the Hospital’s efforts to treat all its patients, regardless of financial concerns. To date, IUDM has raised almost $14 million for the children at Riley Hospital. Indiana University Dance Marathon is run entirely by students who unselfishly give their time and dedication to ensure the success of the organization. Over 800 students work year round to fundraise, hold events for the Riley families, and plan the marathon. The hard work culminates in a 36 hour marathon every fall. During the marathon weekend, almost 2,000 dancers choose to remain awake and standing for 36 hours in honor of those children who are unable to. Dance Marathon is truly a life changing experience that provides an environment thriving on faith in each other, hope for the future, and inspiration to achieve. It will stretch the limits of our mind, body, and spirit to launch the most humanly diverse and personally consuming experience at Indiana University. The success of IUDM relies on students, alumni, family members, community members, corporate sponsors, Indiana University, and Riley families.
